My understanding is that TV Guide is transmitted on a sub-carrier on analog KPBS. What happens to TV Guide when KPBS shuts off analog? Not incredibly critical but I have gotten used to it on my Samsung DLP and find it quite convenient. |

In another thread, the XETV engineer posted this info on that: XETV continues to broadcast TV Guide data(TVGOS), both on 23 digital and 6 analog. The servers were upgraded just a few months ago, in part to service Sony for their R&D in Rancho Bernardo. Obviously, the side benefit is that old VCRs will continue to be supported for as long as channel 6 stays on the air, well past 2009. |

Sony just released a FW update (V1.2.21) for their DHG-HDD250/500 DVRs to be compatible with the new digital TVGOS signal. The update instructions contain a couple of guide snapshots which clearly show a San Diego lineup. This work was very likely done here at the Rancho Bernardo location. |

Jay, I'd not known about the update! I guess I'll check it out for my DHG-HDD500. Do you have the URL? I'm going on a search now. |

Here is link to the Sony press release and download: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DHGHDD500&news_id=334 There is mixed information on the Sony DHG-HDD thread at AVSforum on whether this upgrade allows the Sony HD-DVR to get updates properly when there are ONLY digital hosts. Guess you will have to try it and keep tuned to this thread: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=537711 Of course this only helps those of you with the Sony DHG-HDD DVR's. Other manufactures may or may not be providing software updates for this functionality. |
