Hey people, i just bought that antenna. I live in Otay Ranch/ Chula Vista. I installed it in the attic of my house (two story). I am getting good signal in some channels, but i am not getting abc and cbs. All the channels i am getting are: 6-1 12-1 15-1 15-2 33-1 39-1 39-2 39-3 51-1 57-1 69-1 but according to the site TV fool i should be getting CBS and ABC but i dont get them. Supposedly this antenna gets signal for up to 65 miles and its omnidirectional (multidirectional). Is there any special set up or any other stuff i have to do, besides installing it on the roof? PLEASE ANY SUGGESTIONS LET ME KNOW. Thank you |

Those two come from La Jolla so its not surprising you're not getting them in your attic in CV. I can think of three different approaches. One is you really need to try out something on your roof, even if the antenna is just there for an hour, so you at least know you have reception. FYI these are just about the only stations on VHF, so if you don't want to move the antenna at least try some rabbit ears. Related to that is having a second, cheap but permanently positioned, VHF antenna and use a VHF/UHF combiner or something. Or an A/B switch. You can make a tuned VHF antenna from wires, if it gets the signal it would blend in well on your house. A different approach is try to improve the signal within your attic. I had enormous signal improvement (admittedly UHF) when I had a cheapie small antenna in my attic that I happened to put in front of a vent grill which acted as a reflector. You can make reflectors and directors, I'm not sure how well they'd work especially in your attic that far from the tower. |

Ch8 and Ch10 are in the Hi-VHF band, whereas the others are UHF. Winegard MS-2000 doesn't say what the Antenna Gain is on those channels, although they do provide a RELATIVE Gain plot for Ch9, indicating that it is NOT omni-directional: http://www.winegarddirect.com/pdf/spec_METROSTAR.pdf http://www.winegarddirect.com/viewitem.asp?p=WD-SMS2000&d=Winegard-MS2000-Metros tar-Omnidirectional-Amplified-TV-Antenna-%28SMS2000%29&post= So maybe you simply need to rotate it for best reception performance. But that might also mess up your UHF reception...and don't assume the max gain lines up the same on different channels..... But if that doesn't do the job, you'll need a REAL Hi-VHF antenna. Attic location will probably work....but YMMV.... To combine the MS2000 with a VHF antenna, you'll need a low-loss VHF/UHF Combiner/Diplexer, such as the R-S 15-2586, which has DC PASS through on the UHF port (connected to MS2000). This will allow power to be passed from the Power Injection Module to the Preamp in the MS2000. Note that a typical RF Combiner/Splitter does NOT pass DC and will ALSO result in 3 dB higher loss than a true Diplexer. Some cost effective REAL Hi-VHF antennas: http://www.summitsource.com/winegard-ya6713-yagi-prostar-vhf-tv-antenna-13-eleme nt-offair-broadband-channel-713-high-definition-local-channel-outdoor-signal-aer ial-red-zone-part-ya6713-with-50-ft-coax-cable-p-4588.html http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=Y5-7-13 Give Willy's Electronics in National City a call, they carry both Winegard and Antennacraft, although may be special order: http://shop.willyselectronics.com/index.htm (Message edited by holl_ands on October 16, 2009) |

You should to go to tvfool.com and post your station list. Here's the list of antennas at Willy's Electronics: http://shop.willyselectronics.com/browse.cfm/2,15.html (Message edited by JoeM on October 16, 2009) |

They weren't in Willy's on-line list, which is why I said it might be special order.... |

Yeah, I'm a little surprised that Willy's doesn't have at least a couple hi-band VHF antennas in stock, what with the two Mt. Soledad stations on channels 8 and 10. By the way, totally off-topic, but has anyone heard when / if UCSD-TV's DTV station might go live on Channel 11 from Mt. Soledad? I really like the programming on Channel 35, but I get sort of fuzzy reception. Even clear SD programming would be an improvement, though a station like this might be able to do some good things with simulcasting. At the very least they could offer both UCSD-TV and UCTV at the same time. Maybe through in a college radio station and a few more things while they're at it... |
