http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d03fb580b0e4b24 I'm currently using a Terk HDTVa indoor antenna, but am currently unable to get Channels 8 and 10 over the air. I am reckoning that the reason is that I'm at a 1 story building, and there is a 2 story and a 3 story building right next to me in the LOS of those two stations. Seeing as I rent this place, I'm not really inclined to spend too much money on an over the air antenna, but would like to be able to receive these stations. I am wondering if the Winegard MS2002 Metrostar Amplified Omnidirectional would be an acceptable deal, as I have the three transmission locations for San Diego at all different directions from me. Thanks in advance... |

Make sure the dipoles are extended about 14 inches each and placing the antenna close to a window unobstructed would be preferable. |

I think you're right. 2 and 3 story buildings in the line of sight between you and Mt. Soledad are likely preventing you from receiving KFMB and KGTV. That is especially true with an indoor antenna. If you can point your Terk toward Mt. Soledad and you still can't receive KFMB and KGTV, then the Winegard isn't likely to work either. If pointing the Terk toward Soledad does result in receiving KFMB and KGTV, then the Winegard might work but there is no guarantee since the gain is likely lower on the Winegard than then Terk. |

If you don't get results with 14 inch dipoles, try 28 inch dipoles. The full wave pattern is sharper and has more gain. (Message edited by JoeM on October 12, 2009) |

To give you all an update. I was able to get both channels 8 and 10 when I stuck my terk outside the window. However, the signal meter on my TV varied wildly when the antenna was standing still, from 96% to 24%, to 0, then back to 96%. The upshot of this is that I would get a picture for about 3 seconds, then nothing. |

Just as an update... I bought the Winegard MS2002 @ Fry's San Marcos (when buying there, you'll notice that every single box has been opened, make sure you get all the parts on the packing list inside. I got a 5' mast, and set it on my roof. Coincidentally, this put it at about roof level on the building next to me, and now I get signal levels of 87-93 on Channels 8 and 10, with clear picture. I'm curious to know, though, (and I'm sure this is a very simple question) how gain and over-amplification affects a digital TV picture. Regards, AS |

Over-amplification could result in no reception on some channels. American Standard wrote: "I got a 5' mast, and set it on my roof." How did you attach the mast to your roof ? |

There was a random hole in the actual top of the brick wall that was about 6 inches deep. I put the mast in, and shimmed it up |
