I'm not in favor of this idea. I would not be able to receive the LA channels any more.

I suppose this 'adds value' by limiting/restricting our ability to access their content.

And I would be forced to watch the macroblocked KFMB singal instead of KCBS' nice clean signal.

Some stations might want to add some on-channel repeaters
to fill-in holes and extend their coverage....but it's unlikely
to SURPLANT their existing, primary big stick tower.
Can you imagine the on-going cost to buy/finance/maintain
a bunch of scattered transmitter locations vs just one????
And fergitaboutit for the current crop of Low Power stations
who can barely afford a single location....

BTW, this is primarily a problem for the upcoming MOBILE-TV
service to handheld and car mounted devices. ATSC M/H just
isn't robust enough to provide the same coverage as big sticks
to outdoor mounted aerials:
