currently have a CM4221 installed on the roof, we get 8 and 10 with it but I would like to improve it. Trying to decide between antennacraft y5 or y10-7-13 and use a combiner with the 4221?

I work in sorrento valley so close to Mt Soledad but I am actually in the valley so no line of sight. Below is tvfool reports double edge diffraction for them. I am worried about multipath so thinking y10 being more directional is the better choice or do you think y5 should be ok?

Here is the link for the tvfool report:

My philosophy is bigger is always better. It is much easier to put a cheap pad in if signals are too strong than it is to replace a smaller one because it doesn't cut it. Of course, the higher gain means more of a problem aiming it if you do not have a rotator.

Pre-digital transition I used to work near El Camino and Carmel Valley Road. We used a CM4228 on the top of a 4 story building. I was able to find a sweet spot that got all of the major locals including XETV.

It's hard to predict what will work when you're in a valley. The larger antenna will help to reject unwanted ghosting.

But since you already get 8 & 10 I suspect the smaller antenna will work.

I believe that you might find this link to be helpful.

What they say.

You would do well to walk around a bit to find XETV. Use an antenna on a piece of PVC pipe or antenna mast and look for the strongest signal on 23. Move slowly if you are using the TV's built-in BER meter or readout. Or use an old analog TV, look for channel 45 or 57, and try for the best reception. Check for 23 (6-1). All the desired UHF channels should work there.

Don't worry so much about multipath. The newer sets have pretty sophisticated equalizers that overcome multipath. In town, you should even be able to use a little whip or exterior rabbit ears.

Installed the y10 on monday and it was sort of a semi-failure. See attached pics for the setup, sorry for the bad quality, I used my older cell phone camera.

As you can see from my tvfool link, I have no line of sight to Soledad. In one of the below pics you can see I am deep in sorrento valley and I have a big hill in the way. The reason I went with the y10 is because I wanted something a directional as possible to help with multipath. When I was up on the roof, I could rotate the y10 180 degree and it barely affect the signal readings I got from my usb tuner which I did not expect. My guess is that I am so close to Soledad and no line of sight that I am just saturated with signals from almost all directions? I ended up just pointing it at the direction tvfool told me and left it as be. Tthe ATSC tuner I am using fro development does not like the signal I am getting from 8 and 10 but my USB tuner and the Sharp TV is ok.

Any suggestions? Am I pointing the antenna the wrong direction:-O
