I haven't seen any displays offering the Intel 3D glasses for the 3D episode of Chuck on Feb 2nd, does anybody know where to get them in San Diego? |

From: http://nbcumv.com/release_detail.nbc/broadcasttelevision-200915113639-dreamworks monster.html "Intel has produced over 125 million pairs of 3D glasses, which are being distributed by PepsiCo through the SoBe Lifewater brand. The glasses will be disseminated via 25,000 SoBe Lifewater retail displays in grocery, drug and other retail venues beginning in early January and will be FREE to consumers. Should a display’s supply of glasses run out, consumers can call 1-800-646-2904 in order to obtain a pair." |

What type of 3D is this? I have the standard (previously) green-red lenses for internet 3D. Will this work? 99.5% Dark Matter

If I remember correctly, these glasses use horizontally and vertically polarized filters instead of the red/blue type. |

"3D via H&V Polarized Glasses" requires an HDTV or PC Display with a special pixel polarizing layer....in stores NOW....Mostly for Gamers: http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/3d-dlp-hdtv-1262.shtml http://hdguru.com/ces-2009-3d-hdtv-flat-panels-are-coming/345/ Until 3D HDTV's catch on, "Anaglyphic" Red/Cyan 3D is "state-of-the-art", replacing the earlier Red/Green glasses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_image There is no need for 125 million H&V Polarized Glasses at this time.... So I'm pretty sure TV broadcasts will be Red/Cyan 3D.... PS: You can buy 3D glasses, including clip-on for prescription lens here: http://www.rainbowsymphonystore.com/3dglasses.html "Intel InTru 3D" is a new brand name for Intel's new 3D PRODUCTION system, which will use the "3D via H&V Polarized Glasses" projection system that has been in selected theaters for quite some time now: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2008/08/21/intel-and-dreamworks-unveil-intru-3d/1 http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/releases/20080708corp.htm Note that the Intru3D announcement was for the MARCH 2009 THEATER release....which will be hyped in the Anaglyphic 3D broadcast programs.... The new 3D production systems are supposed to "fix" earlier evils: http://www.3dmagic.com/articles/imax.html FYI: There are a LARGE number of people with NORMAL vision who CAN NOT make sense of the projected 3D images (my wife had to leave the theater): http://www.vision3d.com/whycant.html http://kenlevine.blogspot.com/2008/12/3-d-its-so-unfair.html http://www.danimation.com/blog/2008/09/19/stereo-3d-commentary/ ============================================= BTW: A couple weeks ago at this year's CES2009, I saw a greatly improved 3D prototype system that did NOT require ANY glasses... Although 3D effect was significant, it was blurry and I wouldn't watch it for any length of time---strictly for adverts: www.imageevent.com/holl_ands/ces2009 (Message edited by holl_ands on January 21, 2009) |

In the second link, Katzenberg says TV broadcasts will use "Color Code 3D" glasses...which are AMBER and BLUE with special spectral coatings: http://www.colorcode3d.com/whatis/index.htm http://www.colorcode3d.com/info/pages/what_is_cc3d.pdf So although it's very similar to the earlier Anaglypic RED/CYAN technology, ColorCode3D uses a slightly different color combination and emphasizes one eye over the other. [So should left eye dominant people switch the lenses????] [Or watch via a mirror......ho, ho, ho....] Here's the ColorCode3D Patent (FREE registration required): http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6687003.html and the Anaglyph Patent: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4290675.html Open the *.pdf files to see the full versions.... The first link says the glasses are not only colorized, but also polarized. This is clearly incorrect. The Color Code 3D description says nothing wrt polarization and says it works with ANY TV technology, which of course cannot convey polarized information without a special polarized pixel overlay. Mystery solved....we hope.... (Message edited by holl_ands on January 22, 2009) |

You can see a gallery of ColorCode 3-D images here. They're not bad to look at without the glasses, though there are strange amber accents. Much better than red/blue anaglyphic images, though. "Think of the cable company as a group of terrorist (sic)." -- hookbill

On-line sources for Color Code 3D (and other) glasses: http://www.3dstereo.com/viewmaster/gla-cyb-3.html http://www.berezin.com/3D/3dglasses.htm Curious, JourneyToCenterofEarth L/R=Green/Magenta has eyes reversed compared to Anaglyph L/R=Red/Cyan. |

Who cares what the glasses are? What we seem to be overlooking is that NBC has picked one of it's dumbest shows ever to run a 3D test. Will the show actually be *THAT MUCH* better because it's in 3D? |

Back to my original question: has anyone seen a SoBe display with the 3D glasses in a grocery or retail store in San Diego county? I have not yet seen one at WalMart, Stater Bros, etc. |

I haven't seen any at the Albertsons, Ralphs, or CVS I went to. Figured I'd just spend $3 ($6.62 with shipping) and buy some from that link that was posted. Since they are in CA there's a good chance I'll have them by the 1st TV info (1) Samsung HL50A650C1F 50" DLP (DishNetwork VIP622) (2) InFocus ScreenPlay 61" DLP Ultra-Thin HDTV - SP61MD10 (COX)

I remember the last time something like this was done, the glasses were available at 7-11 convenience stores. So, people might want to check 7-11 and AM/PM stores. (Message edited by Walter on January 24, 2009) |

in addition to the ones I bought I also called the 800 number the same day to request some. The ones I paid for (on top in pic) came 2 days later. The free ones (on bottom in pic) just came today, 9 days after requesting them but still in time for Chuck (and the game). After trying them both I'm glad I bought some! They fit better and have larger lenses http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?image=97790606yo4.jpg (Message edited by taz420 on January 30, 2009) TV info (1) Samsung HL50A650C1F 50" DLP (DishNetwork VIP622) (2) InFocus ScreenPlay 61" DLP Ultra-Thin HDTV - SP61MD10 (COX)

A couple of South Bay Vons stores have been hiding them behind the customer service desk. You have to ask to get them and you are limited to 2 sheets of 4 paper glasses. |

At my local Albertsons they kept them behind the counter at their customer service area. As of Sunday morning, they had lots of them left. |

Watched the Sobe 3D commercial...yup, it was 3D....yawwwnnnn The AMBER left lens improved color rendering when viewing without decoder glasses...the dark blue edges are less visible.... Surprisingly, the 3D effect was still there (although diminished) when I reversed L and R colors. As 3D image popped further out of the screen, it became a defocused blob of malformed smudges....I could never watch an entire movie.... In this respect it was MUCH WORSE than earlier dual color 3D systems. These stunts are NOT going to help sell the new generation of 3D capable HDTVs that use the higher quality polarized glasses (or active switched lenses???) technology with much faster refresh rates (thanks to 120/240 Hz). However, BOTH technologies suffer from severe loss of brightness. Other than the blurry Glasses-Free type technology demos at CES, I have yet to see a 3D system that overcame this problem.... So for now, the Polarized Glasses type systems are for Movie Theater and in very dark rooms if you have a new 3D HDTV.... |
