Friggin' pitiful. NBC still is off the air at 7:15 p.m. When I called NBC the girl on the phone said, "they're working on it" but could offer no estimate for when the digital signal would return to the air. I asked her if they planned to have DTV off the air for this long after they shut down analog in mid-June. She sheepishly said, "I just work at the front desk." This is really sad performance from the only network owned and operated station in the market. I asked whether the local news operation would go HD any time soon. "Dunno." Any chance that you guys will go HD this decade? Will KUSI switch to HD newscasts before our NBC O&O? It amazes me that KUSI-DT and low power K35DG can keep their stations on the air more of the time than an O&O station can keep its digital TV signal on the air in a top 30 market. KNSD will be the last of the Big 4 stations in town to convert to an HD newscast; it's possible that an independent station and one or more of the Spanish language stations may have local HD newscasts before this moth-eaten network O&O station. If they need some duct tape to keep the HD transmitter on the air I'm glad to give them some. Hopefully they can fix things in time for this week's showing of The Office and Southland. After looking closely at my Tivo, The Office, Law and Order (and SVU) and Sunday night NFL games are the only things that I watch on NBC. I'd hate to miss any of these shows, but I wouldn't miss much else on NBC these days. KNSD screwed up for weeks last December, they missed flipping the switch for half of a hockey game within the last six weeks, and they've had serious intermittent failures in the meantime. I can't believe that this is the standard of quality and uptime at a major network O&O! |

Also got 0 signal for DTV 39-1 and subchannels, so it's still off the air past 9:20pm. Analog 39 still works, though it's not a perfect picture like DTV, but then again it's still better than watching nothing. |

I remain amazed at the lack of support GE/the network gives to its O&O, KNSD (frequent signal interruptions, no local HD). I will be asking my sat provider to replace KNSD with KNBC from LA because this is unacceptable for us in San Diego. If they won't, for me it's hulu.com for anything NBC (The Office, SVU) from now on. I can only feel sorry for the employees of KNSD. On top of all of this, with NBC virtually abandoning one of the three hours of primetime programming every weeknight next fall, it seems like now would be a good time to jump the sinking NBC ship. Sad, very sad. I too am willing to provide a roll of duct tape if that would help. (Message edited by andrus7 on May 12, 2009) |

I am not surprised that an NBC/Universal station would be run in this manner. As far as I've always heard, the largest corporations tend not to invest too much in actual equipment. Infinity / Viacom radio stations had often been behind the times compared to those run by smaller companies. Maintaining and investing in equipment to broadcast to a very small minority doesn't make sense to their profit margins. Neither does pushing to broadcast local content in high definition. With the economy where it is now, I expect the problem to be worse than usual as every dollar spent will be more closely scrutinized. |

Maybe some of you have forgotten that the DTV transition is not complete. That means that many of the stations still multi-casting in analog and digital have to wait until they can replace or reconvert their analog transmitters with digital backup units. For the time they have to operate one transmitter and hope that it wont fail or that replacement parts are readily available. |

OTA DT was working when I tried it last evening. So they must have fixed it yesterday afternoon. |

Is 7/39 digital off the air?? I have not been able to pick it up OTA for over a week. Station's website is silent as to any recent change in signal or malfunction of transmitter. |

KNSD-DT is alive and well. They use channel 40 for digital. |

Something still isn't right. I used to get about 55% signal in one room, and even dynamic multipath wouldn't bring the signal down to less than 35%. Now, I am seeing no more than 43% signal and dynamic multipath is bringing that down to around 17%. In another room that has had more frequent reception problems, I can't get more than 27% so it's either frozen picture or else a Weak Signal or No Program indicator. If it's like before, they are probably transmitting at reduced power and measuring the effect of transmitting at reduced power while they do whatever they can to fix the root cause of the outage. But whatever it is, it is definitely a noticeable problem as far as reduced signal strength. |

Dynamic multipath is not the same as multipath distortion... In any case, I see nothing wrong with the strength of this station. Please elaborate on your location, antenna type, amplifier (if any), any splitters, and tuner/tv model. |
